The announcer stood up on the podium, ready to make the announcement of who was picked in the reaping for District 9. As the announcer silenced the crowd, with all the parents watching, knowing that he was sending their children into certain death. Unless they beat the odds.
"Attention" his voice boomed out. He knew that since there were no Careers, there would most likely be no one to step up and take spots.
"The two Tributes will have to step up here, Alexis Perry and William Scratch" he said as he saw an older teenager walk up towards him, as another walked toward the girls pen, he must be related to her. Then the girl made her way up towards him.
"Anyone willing to take either of their spots?" he said as both tributes had finally made it to the platform.

As Alexis heard her name she began walking towards the stage. She looked over and saw her brother yelling for her, and as she moved towards the fence she let her hand touch his before she kept walking. This was what she was meant to show.
As she went up to the stage and shook their hands they expect her to talk. She smiled a bit. They probably didn't expect an avox tribute. As they asked her certain questions her brother finally spoke up. "She's an Avox!" he shouted out. So much for her secret.

Despite the announcer holding the attention of everyone save the older teenager dressed in the leather jacket and whistelling 'Ode to Joy' with a certian degree of detachment. William grinned with delight. This would be the last time he would need to be herded into this pen like an animal and witness the drawing of the tribute from his district. He listened to the names being called and smirked. Poor little Alexis. No big brother to protect her unless by some quirk of fate he was drawn as the
"...and William Scratch"
Needless to say Ode to Joy died on Williams lips as the signs of relief on the other bboy's faces became evident. The pen was opened and a burly peacekeeper seized William by the jacket and hauledh im out of the pen, marching him towards the announcer. Too late to run now, the nearest cover was 40 feet away, the Peacekeepers would gun him down before he could get to thirty feet. That left him one option. Win.
Alexis' brother stepped forward, shouting to be heard and the peacekeeper stopped, William's collar still clutched in his hand. The man's eyes turned towards the young male. William took the oppertunity to pick a set of key's from the man's belt, secreting them into his pocket before his eyes...like everyone else's fell upon the scene unfolding.
