The tip of her tongue poked out of the corner of her lips and her face was screwed up in concentration. Doing tedious tasks like this were hard for Adora. She had such a fleeting attention span and was so forgetful, even simple things and natural things were a challenge. Which meant that even though there weren’t too many splinters for her to remove, it would still take her a while to pick them all out.
Occasionally, her eyes would wander over to Ren or up to Blackberry. Even around at the others that might have gathered. Though, sooner or later, they would return to her blood stained fingers and the gashes that riddled Blackberry’s hand and she’d return to plucking out the splinters as carefully as she could. And, more often than not, she’d mumble a quiet apology under her breath.
For a moment there, she had done a pretty good job at concentrating at removing the splinters. In fact, she was almost done. That was until she heard Ren’s last comment. About his brother and the reaping. Adora couldn’t help herself. She was never good at filtering her thoughts. Actually, she just wasn’t good at being quiet. Always, she spoke whatever crossed her mind as it crossed her mind.
“That’s what Bradley’s doing,” she nodded as she spoke, attempting to multitask with pulling out splinters and speaking, “That’s why he makes me come here. He makes me train. But when he leaves, I don’t train. It’s boring and tedious. I know he means best but… I just want to have fun. If I get picked, it will all be over so I just want to live while I can. Y’know? All done!” She smiled in triumph as she plucked out the last splinter and rubbed her hand on her pants, completely forgetting that the stain would be a clue to her brother. “Now we just need to find something to bandage it with or something. Though, you should clean it, first. Infection still might set in and that would be ugly,” she made a face at the thought – a smile quickly returning soon after – before turning her gaze to Ren with an expression that said she expected him to agree with her.
