Appearance:
(Anna Popplewell)
Mel is very short, standing at only 5’2. However, she typically doesn’t acknowledge this, therefore giving her posture an aroma of confidence. Mel has Curly brown hair that falls beneath her shoulers, and although she has always tried to keep it well groomed it looks on some occasions like a bit of a rat’s nest. Mel has pale skin dotted with barely noticeable freckles. Her eyes are a very bright blue, and although this is unusual for people in district twelve, people often don’t mention them. Mel’s lips are full, and her body is skinny, but fed. Mel doesn’t have dimples, and her face usually portrays determination. Mel has a long graceful stride, and is not very clumsy. As far as Mel’s clothes go, they are middle class for people of district twelve. Although her clothes are clean, and not usually torn, she certainly doesn’t have many of them. Mel isn’t out of shape. Mel has always had a paranoia that she would be drawn for the Hunger Games, it was because of this fear that Mel took great care to stay in good physical condition, that and the fact that she spent much of the day walking around the district, and assisting people in whatever way necessary… but typically for a price.
Personality:
Mel isn’t shy, but usually keeps to herself, which leads people to believe she is. She has tried to become acquainted with people, but that has never ended well. Mel is kind, though she may not show it. On the outside she appears hard, and firm, not showing any emotion. But, if you were to talk with her, or become acquainted with her, you would realize that she is quite friendly. Mel prefers not to show emotion, she doesn’t cry in public, or show her anger. She has learned that it is better to keep it all within, it keeps people from pitying her. Mel walks with confidence, a confidence that isn’t easily shaken. Mel never takes any rude comments to heart and just continues to walk by if a comment is made. She hates the idea of the Hunger games, but there is nothing to be done about it. If a rebellion was made in her district, Mel would gladly join it despite the danger, but she fears if she tried to start one, no one would assist her. Mel helps the people who need assistance, she has taken Tesseraes for families. She usually requests payment for her work, but doesn’t always demand it from those who don’t have any way to pay. Mel has trained for the Hunger Games out of fear, though she hopes she will never have to use her training. Mel is quick witted, and very intelligent. She relies on logic rather than her emotions to guide her, and so far that has worked out very well.
History:
Camellia Anne Vincent was born to Ornico and Clover Vincent on September 13, 16 years ago. Ornico was upset to have a daughter, he wanted a boy, someone strong to work well in the mines, or to own his clothing store after he was gone. Clover was upset to have a child at all. Clover’s friend had been chosen for the Hunger Games, and Clover had had to watch her friend die. Clover didn’t want to experience the pain again, but after having a child, she knew that she was at risk to re-experience it.
Mel was raised in a middle class family. Although Mel never felt starved, she was never full. Clover loved Mel, but Ornico ignored her. When Mel was three, her mother died in childbirth to her brother Andy. Ornico was sad for the lose of his wife, but joyous with the birth of a son. Andy didn’t live to see the age of five. After this incident, Ornico became more hard and stern than ever. Mel was raised to show no emotion, to never love. In truth, Ornico was trying to protect Mel, but the way he did it was cruel. When Mel was seven, Ornico and her went to watch the Hunger Games, until this point in time Mel had always thought that the games were fake, not real, but when she was seven Ornico revealed contrary. This horrified Mel, made her cautious, made her begin training. Ornico had no objections, he told her as long as she kept it a secret, she could do it.
When Mel was twelve no one celebrated, on the night of her twelfth birthday she disappeared. Mel had ran from her party and under the fence into the woods. She would rather be an avox than die in the ring. Mel spent two days in the woods without food or drink, it was during this time that she realized her hate for the Capitol, and that she needed to return to face them. The next day Mel returned home, and told her father what she thought of the capitol. Ornico slapped her and told her never to speak like that again. Mel was stunned, but never spoke of it again.
From that time on, Mel kept to herself, she quit trying to make friends for fear that she would lose them. The Hunger Games ruled her life.
