Annie smiled at her enthusiasm. She really like Reileigh and obviously she felt the same way. They had so much in common, except for certain little things. ”That’s true, they are usually together, but that one could have been traveling towards the others” she said as she looked down and went underwater, and picked up a smaller sand dollar.
As she resurfaced she brought the sand dollar out and showed it to Reileigh, it was rather smaller compared to the one that Reileigh had given her as a token of their friendship but of course she handed the little one out to her. It was going to be one of the ones that was most likely going to Reileigh’s brothers. ”Three because you need one to symbolize us meeting as well, I can’t be the only one with one” she said as she kicked up some more sand.

"That's always a possibility," Reileigh said to Annie's first statement, searching. She spotted the small sand dollar at the same time as Annie, but the dark haired girl beat her to it. "But it seems like we're getting lucky today!" she said. If there were two, the chances of more were higher.
She looked at the sand dollar as it was displayed to her. Despite being smaller, the flower-like design on it was still visible. She was honestly a bit startled by Annie's words. It was obvious now that Annie had accepted her friendship in full. With a smile, Reileigh looked back down, spotting another just as it was about to hide. "Oh! There's one!" she exclaimed. Rather then just dip down, she dove for it, splashing up water intentionally to wet Annie as she unburied the sand dollar and grasped it before rising up again to see Annie's reaction to the splash, and show the slightly large sand dollar.

Annie smiled. She guessed that there were a bunch of sand dollars in just this area. Thankfully they wouldn't have to move too much to find them. As Reileigh went underwater for one as well she had ended up splashing Annie. Annie quickly put the small sand dollar in her bag to keep it safe, and out of harm.
As Reileigh resurfaced Annie smiled at her before splashing her with water. As the water hit Reileigh, Annie swam off in the other direction. This was now becoming something of a game. Between a girl that everyone hates, and one that everyone loves.
Sorry for its extreme shortness, I'm tired and have many other places to post after a picnic, I'm having someone else join before you post again, But I don't think that will be a problem

Paul was what everybody called a Career Tribute. He spent most of his life training to be in the Hunger Games, even if it was against the rules. These rules were never really enforced by the Capitol however. The mere thought of it put a smile on Paul's sweating face as he impaled a bag of dirt halfway up to the shaft of the spear he was training with. This brought a different smile to his face. Finnick Odair had said that a bag of dirt was almost like a human body when it comes to using spears and tridents.
Paul didn't know for himself but he followed his instructors orders. Finnick had pounded a rather routine schedule into Paul's mind. One that worked on everything. Monday; Cardio. Run three miles around the District, ten-minute break, swim for an hour non-stop, fifteen minute break, repeat. Tuesday was strength day. He had to carry boulders and such all day. Wednesday was speed day, a day dedicated to building his speed by means of weighing down his limbs with a certain poundage for the day.
Thursday was cardio, Friday was strength, Saturday was speed, and finally the day that Paul loved the most of the week. Sunday. Combat Training. However Finnick replaced some of the routine training with combat training every now and then. Today was just a refresher course on the spear and knife now that he had greatly increased his speed, cardio, and strength over the last four years. Placing his foot on the bag, Paul jerked the spear free before turning to face another bag of dirt and rock.
Rushing forward at his maximum speed, Paul thrust the spear into the bag and lifted it in the air as he continued sprinting for several paces as the side of a wooden house came up in front of him. He jammed the spear head through the side of the house and let a small laugh erupt from his lips as Finnick let out a howl of rage. Paul had just speared Finnick's home in the Victor's Village. The spear head was buried deep into the side of the building and the bag of dirt and rock slid off the end of the spear shaft.
"Dammit Paul!! Look what you've done to my home! Take the rest of the day off, I don't want to see you!!" Finnick shouted at Paul before collecting himself. "Sunday we practice with the Trident. Now get out of here."
Paul nodded and ran toward the ocean. The sweat from the day cool and drying on his tanned and toned body. He wanted nothing but to dive into the cool water and swim for as long as he could. As he neared the water however, he noticed two women. He stopped dead in his tracks as he identified one of the two.
It was Annie.

Reileigh threw her arms up to defend against the offending water, turning her head to the side and closing her eyes to avoid the worst of it. She laughed, glad that Annie had decided to pick up on her game. Lowering her arms tentatively, she looked back at Annie, only to see that the girl was swimming away. Her laughter faded and she was left with only a warm smile spread across her lips.
She carefully put the sand dollar into the pocket of her shorts to keep it safe and dipped forward into the water, cutting through the swell to catch up to Annie and occasionally trying to splash the girl. She paid no notice to the figure on the beach watching them, as she had yet to realize he was there.

Annie laughed as she was splashed slightly by Reileigh. Annie forgot how much fun it was to play in the water like a little kid, since the 72nd Games she didn’t get to because no one would anymore. As she turned towards Reileigh she splashed her more and as she saw water coming towards her she ducked under the water and missed getting splashed.
When she was under water she began swimming more towards shore. It was easier to move when one could actually walk, whether it be in knee deep water or slightly more it would be easier to fool around. As she turned towards where Reileigh was she splashed more water towards her when she resurfaced. She could now feel her clothes dripping water. As she turned to run away from the now advancing girl she stopped in her tracks.
What was he doing here? She had no clue. Shouldn’t he be training. Her face hardened and she stood up straight. Was he here for a fight? Doesn’t he know that it would bring him to interrogation. Brawling in public was against the rules.

Paul watched as Annie was seeming to have fun with the other woman. This brought a faint smile to his lips, she deserved to have some fun. Especially after what everyone's been doing to her. Treating her like a piece of garbage and disowning her in her parents case. He wished that he wasn't under constant watch by the rest of the District, that way he could be himself. But no, he had to play along for the rest of the people so he could still volunteer for the Reaping this year. He had been training so hard and devoted almost all of himself to it.
He stood there and watched as his right hand absentmindedly moved up to the shell necklace he wore and rubbed it. He wished that things could have been different, wished that he didn't have to screw up the only chance he had with Annie to be placed in the Hunger Games. Hell if he was lucky, he would die in the Blood Bath. That way he wouldn't have to see the betrayal in her eyes ever again. He had completely avoided her since he had broken it off.
He sighed as he Annie went under the water and reappeared. So elegant, so graceful. Yet he could never have her again. He started to think of some hateful things to say. He didn't want to but to maintain his image and guarantee his spot as the volunteer this year, he would have to. All the vigorous training he had gone through never prepared him for having to hurt Annie. None of it. But that doesn't matter now, now was the time he had to be swift with his remarks and deal verbal blows while taking some in return. Of course Annie knew him and knew what to look for to see if he was being serious or not. Times up, she finally noticed him.
"Annie it's. . ." Paul started. He was at a loss for words. He knew he would have to act like he loathed the very sight of her. "It's. . I'm sorry for this" He whispered more to himself than to her. He hoped she heard.
"Having fun playing like a child? Or are you devising a plan to stab her in the back as well?" Paul indicated the other woman. He guessed this was something that happened everyday, whether it was he didn’t know for sure but really he didn’t care either.

Playing games like this was an every day thing for Reileigh and her little brothers, but it was rare for her to find someone her age that was more then willing to participate. And in a way, it was more fun, more exciting. When Annie ducked below the surface to escape her attacks, Reileigh followed. It was easy to keep up with her like this. She spent so much time under water that it was like being on land to her, swimming elegantly like those mermaids that her father used to tell her about.
She rose up behind her and was about to splash her again when she noticed her sudden change of pace. She was more rigid now, not quite afraid, but completely on her guard, and Reileigh didn't understand why. "Annie? she asked uncertainly. She moved with slight resistance through the water to stand beside her, examining her face, noticing her eyes were locked on something on the shore.
Reileigh turned her head to follow her friend's gaze and when she spotted the young man, her breath caught. The boy was obviously a Career. It was obvious by his well-toned body, a body that had been worked and trained endlessly for years and years. But he was just standing there.. he couldn't see why Annie would have reacted in such a way to seeing him.
She watched him and for a moment, he looked sincere, almost as if he wasn't quite sure what to say. But then, his expression changed and the words that reached her made her eyes narrow in irritation and she crossed her arms. As if to make a point of their friendship to this boy and hopefully make Annie more comfortable, she linked her arm with Annie's, asking her without ever taking her eyes off Paul "Who is this guy? What's he talking about?"

Paul knew the perfect ways to piss her off. They had been together for 2 years. Nothings kept a secret from him now. He knew everything about her and cried when she went into the arena. But since she was a disgrace to the District he had to follow his little careers and hate her. He had no back bone in her eyes.
Did she still love him? Of course. Nothing would change that. She heard him say her name and she looked him in the eye. As he stuttered for a second before finally mumbling something. Annie laughed. This was great. He couldn't even insult her. She had two feelings about him, Love, and Hate. Two feelings that don't go together but she thought she could trust him. Turns out she couldn't. As she looked over at Reileigh he snapped. Annie smiled at Reileigh. She would never hurt her.
”Wow, New low?” she asked him politely. She couldn’t stand him at this point. He was scum. Filth that for some reason wanted to go into the Arena. Anyone was crazy for wanting to go in there. She had seen it once, and thankfully would never have to again. That was one great thing about being a winner. Never having to enter the Hunger Games again unless she put herself up instead of another girl.
”Reileigh, Meet my oh so wonderful ex” she said while rolling her eyes. There was nothing that she could say nice about him at this time. He was a puppet. A puppet for the Capitol. Unlike most other victors she never took to anything to help her cope with her winning. She felt fine. She didn’t feel like she killed anyone, even though she did, she was saving her own life. Survival of the Fittest. Obviously she was the fittest.
”Although I see your still wearing the necklace I made you” she said sharply. She never asked for any of the things she made him, or gave him back. She was fine without them. ”He’s talking about how I won in the Games. And to be honest, I never stabbed him in the back. They were facing me, so I never stabbed them in the back. Plus I never stabbed them, I shot them. It was quite easy, want me to show you?” she said harshly.
She apologized to Reileigh in her head. There was nothing that she did that warranted having to see Annie be harassed by her ex. Being 15 and able to kill without a second thought has to be easy in the Games. It was rather easy. Meeting Paul at 13 and falling in love was easy, having him break her heart because of what she did to survive in the arena to come back to him, that was devastating. Nothing would change the love that she had for him, but her feelings were opposites. Good and Bad.
Annie moved more towards the shore. Now her shorts were fully out of the water. As they dripped water onto her legs, along with the small pouch that she had tied to the loops of her shorts. It was unusual for a girl to have so many clothes even in this District, but Hunger Game winners had to spend their extra money on something, she just spent it on clothes. Which she was fine doing, since no one in her district was really starving. Otherwise she would give them money.
Annie stepped onto the shore, towards Paul and smiled. ”Go back to training, Its all your good for” she said as she turned away from him and walked the other way. Nothing was going to ruin her good mood. Thankfully, she knew how to handle Paul and anyone else in the District that tried to ruin her happiness.

Paul watched as the other woman walked over to Annie to see what was wrong. Evidently she didn’t see him standing. Fine by him. Paul never saw any woman the same way he had saw Annie. Most seemed possessive in Paul eyes, but that was something that he expected from people these days. Oh well nothing stopping him from being himself except his fellow Careers and his father. Oh the beatings he sustained and still gets every night. Of course the bruises rarely show on his skin anymore. There were times when Paul honestly thought of letting everyone down and just leaving. Whether it be leaving by means of running, swimming, or just by getting caught and executed. It was all starting to weigh on him like a ton of rocks.
”Not as low as I could get” Paul responded, hinting that there was something else he wanted to say. But he kept his mouth shut.
He smiled on the inside at the sight of someone being friends with Annie, at least there was someone who wasn’t afraid of being her friend in public. Paul often wondered if Annie still loved him as much as he loved her. Of course he was still too afraid to show his affection for her in public. He still wanted to go to the Hunger Games. Why was something that he knew no one would understand. He didn’t want the money, he didn’t want the fame or glory. He wanted to go so he knew what Annie had gone through. What every victor had gone through. He even wanted to prove a point to everyone. His plan was one that not many people ever thought about.
He planned on taking out as many Careers as he could before he started on everyone else. He was going to be on his own, he didn’t care what the District thought. Of course he was going to play along first and have the other Careers put their trust in him, that way in the Arena it would catch everyone off guard when he attacks them. This brought a slight smile to his face around the same time Annie introduced him. ”Paul Wersbowski” He said after Annie finished. He doubted that he would ever be on Annie’s good side again. That caused him a type of pain that few people would ever know.
At the mention of the necklace, Paul broke eye contact with the two women and looked at it. It represented the best times of his life, though he often said it was a reminder to never trust anyone. The latter being completely untrue. If anything it was a reminder that Annie was the only person he could trust. ”They remind me of a better time. A time where I could be myself and not have to worry about losing my chance at going to the Hunger Games" Paul said as he looked back into Annie’s eyes. He missed her, he missed being with her, and above anything he missed spending time with her.
He thought what might happen if if he showed her how much he still loved her. But that was being rather risky. He would have to make up his mind soon however. Annie was leaving the water and advancing on his position. Paul’s thoughts raced as he watched her. His pulse quickened. The smell of water mixed with her hair reached his nose. He stopped himself from falling onto his knees and begging for forgiveness. No not just forgiveness, to also take him back. He wanted to tell her so much. To apologize for so much. But her words cut through those impulses.
All I’m good for? All I’m good for?! All I’m good for!!” He would show her what else he was good for.
He walked up to her as she was walking away and spun her around before kissing her. He pulled away and said ”I can’t go back to practice today. I skewered Finnick’s house”

Her ex... Reileigh thought to herself, staring at the boy. It surprised her - she wasn't aware that Careers were willing to make such ties, especially considering how much there was to lose when the Reaping began. Falling in love, only to lose one another... Paul must have been devastated when Annie entered the Arena. But then why? Why would he be an 'ex' when Annie had returned safely? Why would he leave the girl he'd obviously fallen in love with? Was it because of everyone else? Because of what the entire District thought about her? The questions assaulting her made her head spin as she tried desperately to find answers. It wasn't something you just asked, especially when you'd just barely become friends with someone. Something this personal was a secret that was kept tight. She stared at the necklace that Annie had mentioned, a shell necklace that was obviously a memento of their love, just as the sand dollar was a memento of her own friendship with Annie. But the necklace was more. Could he be wearing it because he still cared?
"They were facing me, so I never stabbed them in the back". The buntness of Annie's explanation startled Reileigh and she bit her lip to keep the questions from rising, her hands searching for something to keep them busy and eventually finding the hem of her soaking own soaking wet shirt. Was she just acting tough like this because Paul was here? Or was this really how she thought about it. Were all Careers like this? When Annie started toward the shore, Reileigh released her to allow her forward, but didn't hold back. She followed the girl through the water, partially afraid that Annie would try to do something to Paul. Fighting got one in a lot of trouble... she wouldn't allow that to happen.
But then Annie changed course and for a moment, Reileigh stopped, staring at Paul to see his reaction. He seemed, for a moment, confused. But then a more resolved look graced his features and when he grabbed Annie, Reileigh prepared to step forward to keep him away. Career or not, he wasn't going to let him her her friend. When he kissed Annie, however, Reileigh stopped short, her hand outstretched, shocked at the sight. She slowly lowered her hand, taking a step back behind Annie, feeling as if she were intruding on some sort of private situation between the two of them.

Annie rolled her eyes. It seemed like she hadn’t heard the last from Paul. Things obviously changed him, time changed him. For all she knew he had some other girl. Although she still cared for him, he had hurt her like no other. She was fine with her family. They had never wanted her going into the games, but she choose to. Why couldn’t anyone just be happy that she was alive? Everyone was mad that she killed a Career. So help them! Did they not realize that the Career would be no use to them after they won, so they should be happy that someone from District 4 won!
Annie looked over at Reileigh, she knew that this must be awkward for her. There was nothing that she could do to change it. There was one thing but obviously Paul wouldn’t let her do it. As she felt his hand on her shoulder, his touch she hadn’t felt in 2 years. Things changed in two years. Hatred had bubbled up inside her and Love still blossomed.
Annie was so confused at this point, then before she knew it, Paul had turned her around to face him. As he leaned in she knew he was going to kiss her. She put her hands on his chest trying to push him away but he was stronger. After he kissed her she pulled away and continued walking in the other direction. He couldn’t still have feelings for her. He was the one that broke it off. How could he do this to her. She never was mean to him. He was rude to her first.
Annie stopped walking after about 50 feet and leaned against a dune. She didn’t know what to do. She pulled her feet in towards her body and rested her head on her knees. While wrapping her arms around her head, she didn’t know what to even think right now. Let alone he skewered Finnick’s house! He was becoming more and more like her.

Paul watched as Annie walked away, he had hoped for a semi better response. Instead she had walked about fifty feet away and leaned against a dune. He didn’t know what to do, he wasn’t good in these sort of situations. He usually made them. . . worse in some way. He looked at Annie’s back knew that he had hurt her two years ago when he had broken up with her. He still sat up at night and silently sobbed to himself about it. He wanted to make up for it, he wanted to somehow make it right. But deep down he knew that what he had done was unforgivable and unforgettable.
He stood there up to his knees in the cool water. He had an idea, but it wouldn’t be very smart on his end. However it might show Annie just how much he still loved her. There was enough talk about her in the District, he wanted to do something to change that. He sloshed his way over to her and just stood behind her for a minute. He desperately wanted to hug her, but he was afraid that might be something she didn’t want. Paul saying what was on his mind. ”Annie I still love you and after today everyone in 4 will know that.”
He leaned down and whispered ”I’m sorry for everything” in her ear before he stood back up. ”I’m gonna try to make it up to you” he whispered as he did so and sloshed his way back to shore. He knew what he was going to do, the only problem was the repercussions that might hurt everyone. He didn’t know exactly how bad they would be, but he was almost positive that there would be some. He trained his eyes onto the beach that was rapidly approaching. He didn’t care how his plan would hurt his public view or just hurt him in general.

Reileigh watched Annie walk away, torn between following her and giving the girl time to herself. Most people normally wanted companionship during times of heartache and confusion such as this one, but Reileigh already knew that Annie wasn't like most people. She was as far from one of the crowd as one could possibly be. But regardless, she was a friend. She gave Paul a venomous glare, one that seemed to say, If you hurt her anymore, you're dead, a somewhat empty threat for she knew herself that she'd never hurt him, but Paul didn't. Besides, when her friends were being hurt like this, even Reileigh didn't know her own limit. With that done, she determined that the girl needed companionship and followed Annie to the dune.
Annie looked so vulnerable, sitting there. Hiding herself from the world, shielding herself from everything around her. It angered Reileigh that she was put into a situation like this, where this strong girl felt the need to hide away. She hoped that Paul wouldn't follow, but had a strange feeling that that wasn't the case. Quietly, she sat down near Annie with her legs crossed - close enough to show that she was there for her, but not so close as to make her uncomfortable. "I'm going to go ahead and ask a second stupid question today..." Reileigh said with a small smile, gently reaching out to put a hand on Annie's shoulder, "Are you ok?"
However, it seemed that before her question could be answered, Paul reappeared beside them. At first, Reileigh was angry, prepared to tell him to go away until he spoke. So he did still love her... judging by his words, she came to the conclusion that she was right. Whatever had caused them to separate was because of the Hunger Games. These games that caused people so much pain... it wasn't right. She couldn't hear what Paul whispered in Annie's ear, but as he walked away, the look of determination on the taller man's face was enough indication that whatever he planned to do wasn't going to be a small feat.

He had the audacity to kiss her. After everything that he put her through he kissed her. She didn't know what to do. It was bringing back memories of what they were before the fateful reaping that made her a winner. How they had to pull him out of the room so she could leave to the capitol. It was said that she was most likely going to be helping the next female tribute. She didn't know what to do anymore.
Whether she wanted to help or not depended on who was reaped from their District. She didn't want to help one of her friends and watch them die. That would be the worst, let alone trying to get sponsors would be a bitch. She really didn't want to deal with anything at this point. Everything was supposed to work out after she won. That's probably why most winners went to morphine or alcohol, thankfully she hadn't had to touch either. She never got hurt in the games so she was incredibly lucky.
As he leaned down and whispered that he was sorry for everything she let a tear fall. She couldn't fall in love with him again. Not right now. There was the reaping just days away, she couldn't stand to see him go and die just for her to get her hopes up. She couldn't stand heartbreak again when after he won he went on to someone else. It wasn't going to happen this time that easily.
